In response to demand we have uploaded a new page called Study
Skills and Research presenting
what we've selected as 'best of the web' in these areas for a range
of people: undergraduates, graduate students, researchers, teachers,
trainers and trainees. We'll
be making arrangements for you to give feedback as to what you like
and what you'd like to see added.
Quick Facts
Origins
This site originated in 1998 in printed website lists prepared for Malaysian teachers and teacher-trainers on courses at the Specialist Teaching Training College Malaysia, one of 27 training colleges in the country.
What is ELTC?
Soon we took the lists online and in 2003 Webguides came under the auspices of Malaysia's new English Language Teaching Centre, set up to lead English language teacher training nationwide--and to become an international centre of excellence in the field of English language teaching.
ETeMS
In particular, ELTC is to facilitate the training of teachers
in nearly 10,000 schools to teach Science and Maths in English instead
of Bahasa Malaysia: the ETeMS project. A tall order! And
that's just one of our responsibilities.
The Subject Guides
Our web pages of annotated links reflect ELTC's major concerns but because we draw on sources worldwide, they are equally applicable to teachers, trainers, students and librarians in any country.
Just Click
The pages in the Internet section of this site should help you to exploit the Subjects pages to the full. The links to the left (or below) will take you where you want to go.
- TESL / TEFL
This huge guide with its many subtopics is also the most popular. It covers the field in general, and English for middle and secondary schools in particular.
- Young Learners
ELTC places great emphasis on early literacy
programmes. Here is a webguide especially for teachers at primary
level.
- Science and Maths
Language and subject learning can go hand in hand. And there are sites to excite anyone about becoming a scientist or inventor.
- Special Education
All students are special--but some more special
than others. Every teacher needs to know something about this field.
- School and College Libraries and Resource Centres
Learning how to learn and how to access, evaluate
and use information are the underpinning of 'education'. What
help is there for overworked librarians and teachers in providing
quality materials and maximum accessibility?
